Letter: Support civil rights

Editor:

Niedrich’s article on privileges (“Think of the privileges you have,” April 4) correctly observed, “With unequal treatment often comes harm and negative repercussions.”

Ward Connerly and the American Civil Rights Institute are doing something about unequal treatment. They have championed civil rights initiatives which read, “The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.”

It has already passed in California, Michigan and Washington, and they are working to get it placed on the ballot for 2008 in Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri.

What a great way to make sure that privileges of race and gender won’t matter and people can be chosen based on their qualifications for the job in question.

Support Ward Connerly and the American Civil Rights Institute and support equalityfor all!
