Kilby Block Party 6 is right around the corner, where 10 local bands will debut at the iconic Salt Lake City festival. The Block Party has seen its fair share of stardom, with notable local bands such as The Backseat Lovers, Ritt Momney and The Plastic Cherries performing in previous years.
Kicking off the festival on Thursday at the Lake Stage will be Levelor. The self-proclaimed “dirtgaze” band released a single on April 4 titled “Anathema,” featuring Black Market Karma. The band formed in Salt Lake City in 2019 by Rocky Maldonado and Catalina Gallegos. Their gritty sound has earned them a local following and an opening spot at KBP 6.
Three local bands will perform Friday: Cardinal Bloom on the Lake Stage, Melancholy Club on the Desert Stage and Josaleigh Pollett on the Mountain Stage. Cardinal Bloom and Josaleigh Pollett deliver indie rock discographies, whereas Melancholy Club leans into emo punk. Melancholy Club released their single “Pull” on April 10 and Josaleigh Pollett released a single titled “Put Pressure” in January. Cardinal Bloom and Melancholy Club share the same set time, 11:45 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Josaleigh Pollett will follow at 12:25 p.m.
On Saturday, Hurtado will perform at the Desert Stage, Marshall Van Leuven at the Lake Stage and Over Under at the Mountain Stage. All three artists have released new music recently, including Over Under’s single, “Memory Lane.”
Marshall Van Leuven is an indie musician whose aesthetic varies, most recently embracing a Western vibe in his single “Being a Cowboy.” Over Under is composed of Taylor Gwynn, Max Moffatt and brothers Landon and Jaden Gwynn, hitting the Salt Lake City scene in 2019.
The final day of the festival will feature Poolhouse, Elowyn and Molotov Dress. Poolhouse recently released their single “Could Be Love” on May 9.
These three bands span multiple genres: Poolhouse is indie rock, Elowyn delves into indie pop and Molotov Dress brings an energetic punk sound. With fierce stage energy and unapologetic lyrics, Molotov Dress is sure to leave a lasting impression as the festival wraps up.
