The University of Utah Cross Country team captured their first victory of the season this past Friday, at the College of Southern Idaho Invitational. It was the first look at the incoming true freshman class for Utah, as they took on their first race for the University. Scarlet Dale had a coming out party in this meet, as she finished in second place overall during the competition.

Dale contributed to the Utes’ 28 team points which gave the team the victory. Dale’s second place time was 18:45.98 on the course. The Top Ten was filled with five Utes, including Dale.

Coming in behind Dale was true freshman Sophie Ryan who finished with a time of 18:59.25, earning her a fourth place finish. Rounding out the top five was redshirt freshman Cara Woolnough, who ran a time of 19:02.34.

The next Ute across the finish line was sophomore Aubrey Argyle, who brought home seventh place with a time of 19:04.03. True freshman Kennedy Powell finished in tenth, with a time of 19:15.56.

Runners who rounded out the competitors for Utah included true freshman Sara Leonard, and sophomores Natalie Platil and Emma Christensen. Leonard’s time of 19:35.71 earned her eleventh place, Platil came in fourteenth place with a time of 19:49.68, and Christensen finished in seventeenth with a time of 20:12.85.

This was the first race of the season for all that competed for Utah. For Dale, Ryan, Woolnough, Powell and Leonard, this was their first collegiate race.
