No. 27 Cross Country to compete in Logan

No.+27+Cross+Country+to+compete+in+Logan

With only three meets left until the Pac-12 Championships, the University of Utah Cross Country team looks to keep rolling this weekend as they head up to Logan for the second time this season. This time they will compete in the Steve T. Reeder Memorial meet, hosted by Utah State University.

The meet is set for Friday, Oct 5 with the race set to start at 3pm. The athletes competing for the U are still to be announced.

The Utes are coming off of a bye week, after taking third place in Boston just last week at the Battle in Beantown. At the race, the team finished before four nationally ranked opponents including the then No. 24 Minnesota, No. 27 Dartmouth, No. 22 Syracuse and No. 11 Providence. The Utes fell short only by Ole Miss and Georgia Tech.

True freshman Scarlet Dale led the charge for the team, taking 13th place overall. The other top scorers for the team included junior Sarah Feeny (20th), redshirt freshman Cara Woolnough (32nd), true freshman Sophie Ryan (44th), and junior Sarah Newton (51st.)

Also running for the team were freshman Kennedy Powell (52nd), sophomore Aubrey Argyle (58th), senior Sadie Wassum (92nd), Sara Leonard (132nd) and Caitlin Faust (162nd.)

The team’s efforts in Boston did not go unnoticed nationally. The Utes were named No. 24 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll last week. This was the first time the team had entered the top 30 since Oct. 30, 2017.

The team dropped three spots in this week’s poll due to not competing last weekend.

In the Mountain Region, the Utes are still holding on to their fifth-place ranking. Rounding out the top five with Utah is Colorado who leads the region, followed by New Mexico, BYU and Utah State.

While the rest of the school will be on fall break next week, the team will continue to work as they travel to College Station, PA to compete in the Penn State National on Friday, Oct. 12 at 8:45 am.
