Will city have say in stadium development?

By By Rochelle McConkie | April 10, 2008
Community members said the city should have a say in plans for the possible "Universe Project" -- a mixed-use development in the west end of the Rice-Eccles Stadium parking lot the U hopes to include in its Campus Master Plan. The project would be built on university property, making it under the state's jurisdiction, but neighbors to the site told the Salt Lake City Planning Commission at last night's meeting that the U should consider the effects the development would have on transportation, housing and nearby businesses -- all city issues.

ASUU stresses accountability, continuity

While recounting accomplishments of the past year at last night's State of the ASUU Address, student government leaders emphasized the need for accountability to students and continuity with programs into future administrations. "The more you do, the more you need to do," Associated Students of the University of Utah President Spencer Pearson said.

Plans for mixed-use development in the works

Students might be able to step off of TRAX at Rice-Eccles Stadium to a new multi-use development of retail stores, restaurants, offices and university housing, if plans for the "Universe Project," part of the U's Campus Master Plan, move forward. "When people get off TRAX, they trudge along a sea of black asphalt -- it's not very inviting," said Mike Perez, associate vice president for facilities management.

Quinney College of Law's dean of students for academic advising and arrange for tutoring and other counseling to bring up their grades.

The Fine Print: Future $60 fee to pay for Life Center

By By Rochelle McConkie and By Rochelle McConkie | March 26, 2008
Students will most likely pay a $60 fee to fund the upcoming Student Life Center, but U administrators said the timing of the fee will depend on when the U can raise enough private funds to get the project started. U administrators said the new student fee would be used to pay off Utah State Legislature-approved bonds for construction costs, but the plan is to not initiate the fee until the center opens so students using the center would be the ones paying for it.
