SALT LAKE CITY?Salt Lake?s light rail trains may be patrolled by state officers soon, if a deal can be worked out between the Utah Transportation Authority and the state?s Department of Public Safety.
Negotiations began about three months ago to replace the private security officers that currently patrol the TRAX trains.
Public Safety Commissioner Robert Flowers said TRAX hasn?t yet responded to a proposal for the state to take over the security.
?It?s a mass transit system, and you need to have sworn officers on those trains,? Flowers said.
UTA General Manager John Inglish said UTA is still considering the replacement possibility.
