Pieces of white paper sit in front of University Bookstore?s top-selling magazines?Cosmopolitan, Maxim and Glamour?partially obscuring their covers.
?The intent was not to obscure the half-clad ladies,? said Nancy Gray, bookstore sales manager. The intent is to show the ranking of which magazines sell best. ?[Blocking the covers] is all kinds of coincidental.?
Gray said the bookstore receives a ?couple of complaints? at the beginning of every semester about the prominently displayed pictures of ?half-clad ladies,? but choosing to obscure the magazine covers was only a ?small factor? in the bookstore?s choice to put paper in the cases.
?We?re trying to show the rankings and show sensitivity to people?s feelings,? Gray said.
