SALT LAKE CITY?The plan to relocate Hansen Planetarium to the Gateway district has cleared the final hurdle.
The Salt Lake County Council voted 7-2 Tuesday to approve $17.9 million in bonding to move the planetarium from its longtime home on State Street in downtown Salt Lake City to the Gateway development on the downtown?s west side.
?Now another round of harder work begins, but this is a big, big moment for us,? said Planetarium Director Seth Jarvis.
Construction will begin soon on the 54,000-square-foot facility, which will include space for exhibits, concessions and administrative offices. Jarvis is hoping for a late 2002 opening.
