Cody Rempfer had a tremendous debut at the Early Bird Invitational at Colorado State University last weekend. Yesterday, the Mountain West Conference honored him as the Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
In his first-ever collegiate meet, Rempfer won three individual events.
He won the 100-yard fly with a time of 51.95, and also the 200-yard fly with a 1:52.87 time. The fly time broke the previous meet record by nearly two seconds. Rempfer also won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:11.62.
Utah, as a team, came in second in the meet with a total of 882 points. The Air Force Academy won the event with 1,093 points.
The Ute swimming and diving team is in the process of rebuilding. This honor is a great positive for them.
Rempfer’s next meet, along with the rest of the men’s team, will be Nov. 2 at home against Brigham Young University. The women are in action this weekend at Oregon State.
The Ute women edged Oregon State last year 120-101. The Ute women are looking for another great effort in Corvallis, Ore.
“Oregon State is in a similar position as we are. They are in the midst of building a program and gaining respect in their conference,” said Ute head coach Mike Litzinger. “I expect this weekend to be highly competitive.”
The U women are coming off a second-place finish at the Early Bird Invitational last weekend.
