CASTLE DALE?The Emery County Attorney’s Office filed two felony charges Monday against Salt Lake County Undersheriff Jim Bell.
Bell, second in command in his department, was charged with wanton destruction of wildlife and obstruction of justice, both third-degree felonies.
He is accused of shooting a two-point bull elk Oct. 7 in a spike-only hunt area. Bell had a spike tag, Deputy Emery County Attorney Brent Langston said, but he did not have a tag to kill a two-point. A spike refers to an antler with no branching.
Langston said the first charge is for Bell’s shooting of the elk. The second charge is for Bell’s attempt to cover up the killing, he said.
