PROVO?Spanish-speaking teen-agers at Timpview High School are being sought out to help mentor younger students.
The 35 high school students are assigned to schools within Provo School District to tutor other Spanish-speaking students.
Jose Enriquez, the program coordinator, said the mentors fill an important role. The teens are in Enriquez’s Spanish class and receive advance placement credit for their work.
Senior Sonia Fernandez said this is more than community service.
“Now I am actually thinking of being a teacher,” she said. “I look at it as something that I want to do.”
Teachers and principals agree that the program has made a positive difference in the students.
