Editor:
This letter is in response to Matt Canham’s Nov. 16 article “Corky Humps the Y.” Lest he think that only Brigham Young University fans were disgusted by his article, I also offer my severe disgust over his article.
After reading the article, I can honestly say that it was the first time that I was ashamed to say that I attended the University of Utah. If the subject material that Matt presented was in any way indicative of the actual student body at the U, I would seriously consider transferring to another school with some semblance of morality.
Luckily, I know that Matt and his few buddies who probably laughed themselves silly over this article are few at the U. Meanwhile, the rest of us weren’t laughing at all.
Not only did this article serve to fan the flames of hatred between the U and the Y, but it also mocked, in a disgusting manner, the very moral beliefs of the majority of the state of Utah.
Maybe Matt thinks that the moral standards held by those that attend the Y and many others, including those that happen to attend the U, are bogus and only meant to be the subject of his next critique of life in Utah, but that gives him no right to do what he did.
Matt should have the moral courage within himself to attempt to correct what he did wrong. Matt should write a column and apologize to the many U students, alumni and residents of the state of Utah that he sincerely offended for his disgusting disregard of our way of life.
Or, if he chooses that he isn’t really sorry for it, write another article and tell us just exactly why Matt thought that what he wrote was necessary to be published. I just don’t understand where he was coming from.
So, Matt, make it right, please. Give the U some dignity again by fixing your mistake.
