SALT LAKE CITY?Four of Utah’s ski resorts were open Sunday as snowstorms swept northern Utah for a fourth day, piling up several feet of snow and triggering avalanches and a warning for skiers to stay out of the backcountry.
The Utah Avalanche Forecast Center reported several natural and skier-induced slides in the Wasatch Mountains, but no injuries or deaths.
More than 50 traffic accidents kept the Utah Highway Patrol busy Sunday when a fresh layer of heavy, wet snow made driving treacherous.
“It’s pretty hairy,” UHP spokesman Chris Kramer said. “The dispatchers are really getting hammered” with distress calls.
