SALT LAKE CITY?Virtually every member of the Utah National Guard will be wearing fatigues and combat boots when the Winter Games begin in February.
Gov. Mike Leavitt announced on Tuesday the activation of 1,900 Utah Guard members to assist with games security?the single largest deployment of the state’s Guard force ever.
Other Utah Guard members have already been activated for airport security and counterterrorism missions. The guard members activated on Tuesday will suit up in January. By the time the games arrive, virtually every Guard member will be on duty, said Maj. Gen. Brian Tarbet, Guard commander.
