Editor:
This letter regards the Nov. 28 letter to the editor, “Manipulating Utah’s Olympic Look,” from Rebecca Walker.
Comparing Native American traditions and culture with Utah’s draconian liquor laws is truly laughable.
Besides, even with the compromises the state has made for the Olympics, the rules and standards for alcohol consumption will still be stricter than they would be if the Games were taking place anywhere else in the country.
Nobody is going to accuse Utah of not having its “quirks,” if that is what Walker is concerned about.
However, let’s not pretend that heavy-handed laws and a theocratic state leadership comprise a noteworthy “culture” or reflect any real “diversity.”
Arguments like that make me want to reach for my flask.
