WEST VALLEY CITY?The police department will begin using electronic fingerprint recognition devices in the next few weeks, giving it another piece of high-tech crime fighting equipment.
Two weeks ago, the department said it would be using a computerized facial recognition system at the E Center?an Olympic hockey venue?beginning next month. It’s designed to spot crime suspects by comparing facial features to a database of wanted people.
Thirty portable digital fingerprint-reading devices were purchased in October. The systems are expected to be installed in squad cars before Dec. 15, Lt. Charles Illsley said.
