WASHINGTON?President Bush, expressing horror and anger at suicide bomber attacks Saturday in Israel, issued a very strong admonition to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to fight terrorism with actions?not just words.
“Now more than ever, Chairman Arafat and the Palestinian Authority must demonstrate through their actions, and not merely their words, their commitment to fight terror,” Bush said.
“Chairman Arafat and the Palestinian Authority must immediately find and arrest those responsible for the hideous murders.
They must also act swiftly and decisively against the organizations that support them.”
Secretary of State Colin Powell and a special U.S. in the Mideast quickly relayed the message directly to Arafat in similarly stark terms, and Bush moved up a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
