NEW DELHI, India?Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres said Tuesday that India faces a serious terrorist threat, but he urged the nation’s leaders to hold talks with Pakistan to ease a crisis that has brought the neighbors close to war.
“While fighting terrorism, you should have a political horizon and conduct a dialogue,” Peres, a Nobel Peace laureate, said after meeting here with Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh. “You should also raise one hand for peace in a prominent manner.”
A day after Pakistan’s president complied with international calls for a condemnation of terrorism, India reported more violence Tuesday in disputed Kashmir and gave no sign it was ready to start a dialogue with Pakistan to ease the tension.
Neither country backed down from military buildup. Indian officials said suspected Islamic militants attacked an army camp in Indian-ruled Kashmir, killing one soldier.
