Parking-related assault?After getting out of her car in the HPER lot, a student was assaulted.She said she had pulled her car into a stall and a car pulled up behind her, blocking her in.She said a young man got out, yelled at her about taking his spot and pushed her back against her car.The man left and the student went to class. When she returned, she found her car had a flat tire, which the tire repairman said had been vandalized.
Marijuana-carrying motorcyclist?Two U officers noticed a motorcycle driving at night without a headlight.As soon as they activated the police car’s emergency lights to make a traffic stop, the motorcyclist sped away and crashed.When the officers arrived at the crash scene, they found the motorcyclist with minor injuries, trying to start the motorcycle to get on his way again. The officers stopped him and took him to jail. The man was carrying marijuana and a false driver’s license.
Anti-U.S. vandalism?Some vandal scratched obscenities into three mirrors in restrooms in the Union Building. The obscenities were directed at the United States.
Aggressive patient?Police were called to help with an uncooperative patient at University Hospital. The man had refused to comply with the requests of the hospital staff; he still refused when the police repeated the requests.The man eventually assumed a fighting stance and raised his fists.He was eventually restrained, but not before managing to hit one officer in the face.
Hospital car theft?Two cars parked north of University Hospital were burglarized. The burglar(s) gained access by breaking the windows. From one car, a purse was stolen, from the other newly bought clothing.
Interfering husband?Police were called to the hospital ER to deal with a man who was interfering with his wife’s treatment for burns. He had to be escorted out of the ER where he agreed to wait until his wife was released.
Broken window in residence halls?Police were called to investigate a broken window in Ballif Hall. At the scene the police found a blood trail leading to a Ballif room. The police spoke to the room’s resident,who had been drinking and said the window was already partly broken and that he had pushed on it and broke it the rest of the way. In the process, he had cut his hand. The incident will be adjudicated by the Student Behavior Committee.
Bathroom vandalism?Someone damaged a stall in a women’s restroom in Orson Spencer Hall.
Drinking and driving?A man stopped for a traffic violation had been drinking alcohol. The officer who stopped him performed field sobriety tests, which proved inconclusive. The man agreed to have his girlfriend pick him up and drive him home.
Stolen parking meter?Parking Services reported a parking meter was stolen from the Annex Lot.
Deserter caught?A representative from the Marine Corps contacted the U Police Department to ask about a deserter who worked at the hospital. The man was found and booked into jail.
One of these things doesn’t belong?A security officer noticed a man in the Merrill Engineering Building on New Year’s Day who “didn’t seem to belong there,” according to the police.The security officer called the police who ran checks on the man. He had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, so he was booked into jail.
Stolen car?Someone stole a white Saturn SL1 from the 1000 Court in the University Village.
Stolen wallet?A campus employee reported her wallet had been stolen from her office in the Alumni House.
Police tip of the week?Keep a record of serial numbers, makes and model numbers of all the valuable items you own. If possible, put a personal marking on those items. This will help police find the items if they are stolen.
