Two women started arguing in a parking terrace near University Hospital. Woman A claimed woman B acted aggressively and used abusive language for no apparent reason.
Woman B said woman A had opened her car door into woman B’s car and when woman B took steps to prevent it from happening again, woman A became irate.
Woman B also said she was upset that woman A had parked in a handicap stall without a handicap placard. Both women decided to pursue charges and made citizen’s arrests by signing citations for disorderly conduct on each other.
Suspicious package?While checking gas lines, a Questar employee noticed a suitcase on the Shoreline Trail east of the U. He called the police; an officer and the bomb squad responded. They detonated the suitcase, but found nothing in it.
Olympic trespass?Olympic Security personnel detained four teenagers for jumping the fence around the West Stadium lot. U Police came and the responding officer questioned the teenagers. He decided they had no criminal intent and the four were just taking a short cut, unaware of the seriousness of what they had done. They received a warning and left.
Alcohol citations?An officer stopped a car and smelled alcohol on the driver. He performed field sobriety tests, which the driver passed. Upon closer inspection, the officer found open containers of alcohol and underage drinkers in the car. He cited the driver and passengers for various alcohol offenses.
Criminal drives too fast, gets caught?An officer stopped a vehicle traveling too fast. In running checks on the driver, the officer found that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest. He booked the driver into jail on the warrants and cited him for driving with a denied driver’s license.
Criminal mischief?An angry man confronted a student on campus, she told the U police. The man claimed she had taken his parking spot. Frightened, she parked elsewhere. When she returned, her car had been dented in two places.
Simple assault?At a basketball game, a bus driver parked his bus in an area closed because of the Olympics. While another driver from the same company drove his bus to another location, the bus driver came out and began arguing with a parking services employee over the situation. The driver bumped the parking services employee during the argument. The parking services employee said it was intentional while the driver said it was an accident.
No one filed charges, but the driver was told his services would not be needed in the future.
Primary Children’s theft?Someone stole a projector from a room in Primary Children’s Medical Center. The projector had been on a cart, but not secured.
Bike theft?Someone stole a bicycle chained to a bike rack east of HPER sometime during the day.
Intoxicated woman found?Police were called to deal with an intoxicated woman sitting on the University Street sidewalk in the snow. The officers convinced the woman to come with them and took her to the police station.
The police contacted the Volunteers of America organization, which agreed to take the woman. The woman had walked away from a local rehabilitation center.
Business building theft?While in a business building break room, a student accidentally set his pocket PC on top of a vending machine while he made a purchase. He forgot it there. When he returned, it was no longer there.
Harassment?A man approached a pro-choice organization’s table in the Union Building. He yelled at the students representing the organization. The students called the police afterward. The students said they’d had problems with the man in the past, but they didn’t know his name. They should call immediately next time he shows up, the police told the students.
Hospital vandalism?Someone shattered the window of a truck parked next to University Hospital. Police found no indication that anyone entered the truck.
Vehicle Burglary?A University Village resident reported someone stole her purse from her car while it was parked in the village.
