The Olympic break has affected many campus organizations’ schedules?including the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge’s.
Challenge officials moved the deadline for executive summaries, originally set for Jan. 18 to Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. Business professors at Brigham Young University had the most sway in the change.
A statewide business competition, the challenge offers Utah students the chance to work with corporate mentors on a business plan. Winners of the competition receive cash prizes to help them get their businesses started.
“BYU became a corporate sponsor this year, and many of the professors are incorporating the challenge into their curriculum, so we changed the date,” said Scott Holley, vice chairman and U business student.
Holley also wanted to get the best submissions possible.
“We knew we’d get a higher number of applications and higher quality executive summaries,” Holley said.
Last year, applicants had until Feb. 2, but the Olympics caused a push for time this year.
“We tried to crunch everything in early with the Olympics, but we got calls from professors and students saying they just didn’t have enough time with the [Jan. 18] deadline, so we pushed it back,” Holley said.
The announcement of semi finalists has moved to Feb. 10, but the marketing forum at BYU will still be held on Jan. 30.
