The wining streak continued for the U women’s tennis team, as it defeated in-state rival Weber State on Friday, 4 3.
Utah has now won its first three matches of the season, and Sheri Esrock continues to dominate every player she faces in singles competition.
Esrock routed Tiffany Smith in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. However, that was not it for the Esrock-Smith matchup, as they faced each other again in doubles competition.
Esrock and Linn Ronnberg defeated Smith and Briana Beachene 8-4.
In another doubles competition, Irini Kotoglou and Allison Hansen defeated Tara Rosenweig and Chelsea Drews 8-3.
In singles competition, the only two players to lose for the Utes were Ronnberg and Ellen Svensson, who lost to Therina SteenKamp and Dana Delancey.
Cassie Kasteler made up for her doubles loss by completely thrashing Beachene 6-0, 6-0. That was not the only shutout given by the Utes, as Kotoglou defeated Drews, 6-0 6-0.
“We are playing extremely well, and I hope we can continue to play this way on the road,” said U coach John Tsumas.
The next match for the Utes will be against Big Ten foe Purdue. “This will be a big test for the team because Purdue has an excellent team this year,” Tsumas said.
