Have they left? Are they really gone? Is it safe to come out? I’ll be the first to admit that the Olympics were a boon to Salt Lake, and that it all came off without any problems or incidents, aside from the rioting beer guzzlers.
Personally, I’ve had my fill of the Olympics this and Olympics that. Just as I was getting settled into my routine, it’s time for the “extended” spring break. But now the break is over, and it feels as if we are starting the semester again. I can’t even put off my homework any longer because it’s all due tomorrow! Ugh!
But the thing I mind the most is the fact that I have had to put my life on hold for this spectacle. On Feb. 8 this really hit me in a very personal way. I had gone to great lengths to have surgery performed during the break only to have it canceled because the doctor was “just too busy with his volunteering for the Olympics!”
Now once again the Olympics had invaded my life. I am glad that this doctor thought I could just wait. Too bad that the problems and the pain I experienced couldn’t be put on “hold.” I would have liked 17 days just to be pain free.
Yes, it was great the Olympics were here and team USA won so many medals. But I have taken offence to the total disruption of my life; this has left me feeling as if none of my problems were as important as “The Olympics.” I do resent the fact that others forced me out of my comfortable, normal life so eagerly!
Have they left? Are they really ALL gone? Is it safe to come out? Yes? Yes. Then take down the “welcome” signs and don’t let anyone in that does not have a Salt Lake home address!
