Punching a Swede?A Slovakian Olympic team member was blowing his air horn outside a residence in the Olympic Village, when a Swedish Olympic team member asked him to stop. The Slovak didn’t, an argument ensued and the Slovak punched the Swede. Police responded, but the Swede didn’t press charges. The Slovakian team manager dealt with the brawling athlete.
Jacket theft?Someone stole an Iceland team member’s Olympic jacket from the coat check area of the village club. Her hat, Visa card and driver’s license were in the jacket. A Finnish team member reported the same thing happened to him.
Jacket theft II?While relaxing in the Olympic Village game room, a Slovakian Olympic team member saw a German team member walk off with his team jacket. He chased the person down and demanded the return of his jacket. Police observed the problem and intervened. The German claimed he’d traded a Canadian sweatshirt for the Slovakian jacket. Police checked the jacket and found the Slovak’s driver’s license and returned it to him. The Slovak did not press criminal charges. Police searched the German’s room, but found no other property there.
Alarming news?The Israeli Olympic team chief reported someone stole his travel alarm clock from his room in the village.
Danish oversight?A Danish Olympic coach set his camera down while he passed through a security check point in the village. He forgot to take it with him when he left. When he returned, it was gone.
Doctor, doctor?Belarus Olympic team doctor reported two hats and an embroidered Belarus crest were stolen from his room in the village. He was having breakfast at the time.
Criminal mischief?Someone painted a black stripe along the entire driver’s side of a car parked in the West Village.
Saxophone hijinks?A man traded a saxophone for other musical equipment at a local music store. The owner saw the sax had U markings on it. University police discovered it was indeed stolen.
Patient becomes a thief!?A man came to University Hospital complaining of chest pain. While in the emergency room, he wandered around the examining room. He was later found in possession of drugs and syringes he didn’t have before entering the hospital. A room next to his contained the same drugs and syringes. Hospital staff cleared him medically and he left with a citation for theft.
Rear bumper?A Highway Patrol car parked in the Olympic Village was somehow damaged. Police found the rear bumper dented and a footprint right in the middle of the dent.
Bike theft, bike theft?A student reported finding his bike stolen just outside of the Widstoe Building, it had been locked with a cable. This is the second time in two weeks this student’s bike had been stolen from the same place.
Police tip of the week?Police suggest you always use a metal U lock with your bike. Cable locks are easily snipped
