GREENSBURG, Pa.?A man whose 8-year-old daughter was squeezed to death by the family’s 11-foot python while she was home alone was found innocent Thursday of involuntary manslaughter but guilty of endangering the girl’s welfare.
Robert Mountain, was negligent, but not grossly reckless, in leaving Amber Mountain alone with the snake last August, a judge ruled in the non-jury trial.
The girl’s mother returned home to find the girl unconscious with the snake coiled around her body. The girl died two days later.
The girl’s mother?who bought the snake?pleaded guilty to child endangerment earlier. She was placed on probation for two years.
Marcy Mountain testified against her husband. She said she did not know that the snake had tried to escape from of its cage the night before the attack.
The girl’s father said he tried to secure the cage with duct tape after he was kept awake by sounds of the snake trying to get out.
