U softball coach Mona Stevens has canceled this weekend’s games with No. 2 Arizona because of “way too much snow.”
Stevens said she called Arizona softball coach Mike Caldrea and told him not to make the trip to Salt Lake City because the field could not be made playable by Saturday.
Stevens met with members of the U’s grounds crew on the field to determine if they could get the field to a ready status, but they could not.
The Utes hope to re-schedule the games for next year. Stevens said she would talk to Caldrea in California next week where both teams go to play, but probably will not play each other.
This would have been the first home series of the year for the Utes, who have already played almost 30 games on the road, but once again, that will have to wait.
The Utes’ next scheduled game in Salt Lake City is for March 20, when they host in-state rival Utah State. Until then, the Utes will head to Fullerton, Calif., for another out-of-state tournament.
