At the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., the University of Utah’s Brooke LoBue placed 11th in the pole vault competition held on March 6. LoBue leaped 4.10 meters (approximately 13 feet, 5 inches).
Her 13?5.5 second-place leap at the Snake River Open on Jan. 19 automatically qualified her for the nationals, where she took 11th place with a leap of the same height.
LoBue is the first pole vaulter in Utah athletic history and, consequently, holds the school record.
Now that the indoor season has been completed, the outdoor season is right around the corner. LoBue hopes to continue her dominance outside.
A transfer from Fresno State, LoBue won both the outdoor and indoor pole vault championships for the Western Athletic Conference in 2000, and ranks second all time for the pole vault at Fresno State with her 13-foot, 0.25-inch leap.
A graduate of Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, LoBue is no stranger to NCAA competition. She also competed in the NCAA outdoor championships in 1999 and 2000 for Fresno State.
The sophomore deaf education major is married to graduate assistant coach Mike LoBue.
