FARMINGTON?Prosecutors want psychiatrist Robert Weitzel to prove his indigence, now that he has rehired a private attorney to help defend him against manslaughter and negligent homicide charges in the deaths of five elderly patients.
Weitzel is accused of causing the deaths at Davis Hospital and Medical Center’s geriatric psychiatric unit in 1995.
Wally Bugden was retained as Weitzel’s attorney through a $100,000 anonymous donation.
Weitzel has received another $12,000 through private donations he solicited through his Web site, but Bugden said that money has already gone to pay earlier fees.
