The Mountain West Conference announced the 2002 All-Conference swimming and diving team, and 15 Utes received individual honors.
Five of those honored were First Team selections, while the remaining 10 were Second Team honorees.
Jonathon Hanna (freshman, 1,650-meter freestyle) was the only male swimmer from the U on the First Team, while Tessa Greegor (freshman, 100 breaststroke), Kristen Kaiser (sophomore, 400 individual medley), Neringa Statkeviciute (sophomore, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle), and Loren Sweny (freshman, 500 freestyle) made it on the First Team for the women.
The women also earned First Team honors in the 800 freestyle relay. That team consisted of Statkeviciute, Sweny, Kaiser and senior Courtney McKinney.
Evan Castro (freshman, 100 breaststroke), Stephen Linge (senior, 100 fly), Magnus Lofgren (sophomore, 500 freestyle) and Cody Rempfer (freshman, 200 individual medley and 200 fly) earned Second Team honors for the men.
Sara Afong (freshman, 500 freestyle), Phoenix Fribourg (freshman, 100 breaststroke), Greegor (200 breaststroke), Kaiser (500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle), Sweny (200 freestyle, 200 backstroke), and McKinney (200 individual medley, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle) were the women’s Second Team members.
There are currently four members of the U squad in Minneapolis, Minn., for the U.S. National Championships. Castro, Rempfer, Greegor and Statkeviciute are representing the U at nationals through Saturday.
These honors are in addition to coach Mike Litzinger being named the Mountain West Conference Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year at the MWC Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., earlier this month.
