Vehicle burglary?A car parked in the golf course lot was burglarized. The thief got into the car by smashing out a window, and then he stole the stereo and amplifier. The victim also found epithets defamatory to homosexuals and the Chinese. Police are classifying the burglary as a hate crime.
World War III?An unkempt man delivered an envelope to the Park Building for President Bernie Machen. The envelope supposedly contained information about World War III. There was no threat of any kind in the envelope.
Reckless driver?A U police officer stopped a driver steering his car recklessly on Sunnyside Avenue. The driver was eventually arrested for driving under the influence. She refused to submit to a breath test.
Cart theft?A golf cart that belongs at the Union was stolen. It was a green food cart with a red striped canopy.
Suspicious find?Someone left a belt buckle, a pen and five drug caplets on the desk of a U employee in the Henry Eyring building. The employee found no note explaining this action. The property was turned over to the police for disposal.
Stolen purses?Some property was stolen from a purse that had been left on a desk in an office in the University Hospital.
A U employee reported someone stole her purse from her office in the Skaggs Biology building.
Harassment?A professor is receiving unwanted email from a man who can’t seem to take “no” for an answer. The attention has progressed from email to U.S. mail and phone calls.
Post-Olympic theft?A housekeeping employee of the company contracted to clean the Olympic Village reported that his company jacket and cell phone were stolen while he was at work.
Stolen jacket?A University employee’s jacket was stolen from her office in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Police tip of the week?Police strongly recommend that members of the U community keep valuables with them and lock their office doors while not there. Thieves can quickly swipe items left lying around.
