SALT LAKE CITY?One-time senatorial contender Greg Hawkins is proposing debates among Republican congressional hopefuls, for which they would have to pay a $400 “entrance fee.”
He said he would shoulder the cost of mailing invitations, renting school auditorium space and hosting the events.
He is proposing debates for each U.S. House District, with the audience to be made up of state party delegates?who will choose the party’s nominees on May 11.
Hawkins ran unsuccessfully for Sen. Orrin Hatch’s seat and later became gubernatorial candidate Glen Davis’ running mate. Hawkins is a member of the Republican Party’s 175 member central committee.
