The Impact Party has made a huge impact on these elections and will continue to make an immediate impact when placed in office. Ours is a campaign of integrity. It is a campaign that is doing the best it can?day in and day out. Our primary concern is that we are as prepared as we can be, as knowledgeable as we can be, and as sincere and personable as we can be. Ours is a campaign that speaks for itself. The people associated with it and the work that is put into it makes a statement as to who we are. Look at what Impact is doing and talk to those involved, and you will see what we mean.
Our primary concern is to be the best candidates and the best party running. Degrading or attacking another’s campaign does not achieve this. We admire and respect those running against us, as they push us to become better in what we’re doing. To be the best candidates, we have strived and continue to strive to follow the advice of the legendary basketball coach, John Wooden. Mr. Wooden coached the UCLA Bruins to four undefeated seasons, 10 national championships and an all-time record 88 straight wins. He was without question the greatest college basketball coach ever. His advice was, “Don’t worry much about trying to be better than someone else. Learn from others, yes. But don’t just try to be better than they are. You have no control over that. Instead, try, and try very hard, to be the best that you can be. That you have control over.” By applying this principle, UCLA fulfilled its own potential and exceeded expectations. The Impact Party has tried to do the same. We are not limiting ourselves to expectations or comparisons; we are simply doing the best we can possibly do. That effort is seen in the campaign, in the wonderful candidates running with the Impact Party, and in the enthusiastic volunteers helping us out.
At the same time, platform ideas are essential to a successful campaign. We encourage you to evaluate our platform for yourself at www.theimpactparty.com Much research and careful thought has been put into the platform. We focus on four main categories: parking, tuition, student involvement and meeting students’ needs. After speaking with as many people as possible who were involved with these issues, we built a platform that was realistic, effective and new.
There are many approaches to winning an election. Our approach has been simply to work hard as a team to become the best party and the best candidates possible. Although the campaign is sincere and serious, it’s important to have some humor as well. We started the first debate with a poem, and we will finish the election with a poem.
‘Twas the last day of elections and all through the campus,
Many posters were hung, though none of Kurt Rambis.
The students were in class, wishing they were still in bed,
While thoughts of free bagels danced in their head.
As they listened in class and took careful notes,
They tried to decide for whom to cast their votes.
With a glance of their eyes, and a twist of their head,
They instantly realized, there was nothing to dread.
For there were Billy and Randall, smiling down from the wall.
Now wait! “Didn’t those guys pick up on me at the mall?”
“Of course not,” we said. “It might have been at ‘the Bay.'”
The important thing is that you vote Impact today.
So they went on their way, for they new that they must,
Go vote for Impact; it’s a vote you can trust.
