ATHENS, Greece? The International Olympic Committee’s chief overseer said Wednesday there were holes in the 2004 Games security package for transportation and venues.
Denis Oswald, an IOC member from Switzerland and chairman of the coordination commission for Athens, told organizers to have a comprehensive strategy ready by the end of his visit on Friday.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Oswald said that security experts gave a “mixed report” on Athens’ preparations.
Security?always a top issue for the Olympics?has taken on an even greater significance following the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks.
Athens security experts have repeatedly pledged to take all necessary measures against terrorism and other possible trouble.
Oswald said that better security arrangements were needed for mass transit and some planned venues are still being built.
