WEST VALLEY CITY?There’s a stretch of road in this suburban community known as “Little Saigon.” The city is home to the nation’s largest per-capita population of Pacific Islanders outside Honolulu.
And West Valley City is embracing its growing diversity with a new community center, designed to be a gathering place for the area’s Vietnamese, Pacific Islanders and Latinos. The $10.4-million project is slated for an 80-acre field along the Jordan River.
The community center will have classrooms and space for weddings, a festival grounds with rows of kiosks, an outdoor amphitheater, studios, performing space, restaurants, offices and perhaps apartments.
