WEST JORDAN?Utah water officials welcomed a recent run of wet weather, but Gov. Mike Leavitt is still warning residents to conserve as a drought cycle enters its fourth year.
“Our current circumstance is dire,” Leavitt said. “In the long run, it is potentially catastrophic.”
Water officials said Utah reservoirs, normally near capacity at this time of year, are as low as 40 percent full.
Leavitt plans to meet Tuesday with water officials to consider which parts of the state need special drought declarations.
Leavitt unveiled a new advertising campaign that begins running today to educate residents and offer tips on water conservation.
