Add another name to the list of the departed from the U men’s basketball team.
Martin Osimani, a back-up point guard during the 2001 02 season who expected to contend for the starting job his sophomore season, became the fifth Ute to leave the team when he announced last week his plans to depart the U program.
“Martin made a decision that he felt was in his best interest, and I respect that,” U coach Rick Majerus said. “I told Martin that I wanted him to come back and compete for a position, but he was concerned about his playing time next season.”
Last season, Osimani was the primary back-up to senior Travis Spivey. As a freshman, Osimani put up 1.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game in 28 games played.
Osimani joined four disgruntled Utes that had already left the program: Guard Eric Osmundson, forward Cameron Goettsche, center Lance Allred and walk on Chris Huber.
Osimani has not yet decided where he will transfer.
