The Associated Students of the University of Utah’s Executive Cabinet is one member short following the resignation of its finance director.
Ryan Wilson was in his second year as director of the Finance Board before stepping down earlier this month.
“It was the hardest decision I ever had to make, and I regret it, but it was time for me to move on,” Wilson said.
Wilson, who begins law school in the fall, cited a lack of time commitment as the reason for his resignation.
“I received a good full-time job and I could afford to buy a house, so I just needed to rebudget my time,” Wilson said.
As head of the Finance Board, Wilson and his staff oversee the ASUU budget and help administer the annual budget process while also verifying the appropriate funds distribution. Wilson also worked closely with ASUU senior accountant George Lindsey to balance the budget at the end of the school year.
“Ryan was the Finance Board director through the second half of last year, and he brought a lot of experience with him to this year, and we’ll miss that,” Lindsey said.
As part of balancing the budget and verifying the proper allocation of funds, Wilson always had the best interests of students in mind, according to Lindsey.
“He was very thorough and conscientious, particularly when looking at how money involving student fees would be spent?he was a good steward of students’ fees in that respect,” Lindsey said.
“My decision was absolutely nothing personal,” Wilson said. “I would love to stay involved in ASUU, but not as a director or associate director.”
Though ASUU student body president Billy Edwards and his staff have yet to fill the vacancy left by Wilson’s departure, Edwards is confident a replacement will be named soon.
“Hopefully we can act quickly to get someone else appointed so we can hit the ground running [in the fall],” Edwards said.
No date has been set to fill the vacancy, but Edwards guarantees the position will be filled before the start of Fall Semester.
