STANTON, Calif.?Police on Tuesday searched for a 5-year-old girl who was abducted kicking and screaming outside her apartment by a man who drove up and asked for help finding his dog.
The girl’s mother, Erin Runnion, wept as she pleaded for the return of her daughter, Samantha, who was snatched Monday evening from a road inside the apartment complex 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
“She is such a sweet child,” Runnion said. “We don’t want vengeance, we just want our baby back.”
Sheriff’s detectives investigating the girl’s kidnapping were dispatched late Tuesday to Riverside County, where the body of a child was found.
“We don’t know if it’s anything related to our case,” said Lt. Colin Murphy of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The body was found near Highway 74, a major route between the two adjacent counties.
