If you build it, they will come…to the remodeled Rice-Eccles Stadium to watch Utah Football. Yet the stands are never full? Why? Is it because we don’t have a state of the art facility? No. Is it because the football team isn’t any good? No. Is it because the weather will be bad on Saturday? According to forecasts, no.
I would like to issue a challenge to the student body of the U to quit complaining about the commuter campus atmosphere and lack of school spirit and instead do something constructive to change it. The school has done its part. It has built a beautiful stadium, new student housing and made all of it easily accessible by TRAX. The infrastructure is in place, now the attitude of the student body needs to change as well. Come support the Utes this Saturday when they play the Air Force Academy Falcons and show the Mountain West Conference what the U is made of.
In case that didn’t convince you, here are 10 great reasons to go to the Ute game on Saturday:
1. It’s free to students
2. It is going to be a gorgeous fall day, enjoy the weather!
3. Get some sun, work on your tan!
4. Be social, there has got to be a friend somewhere among the crowd of 45,000.
5. The Utes are looking for payback for the 38-37 loss to Air Force last year.
6. Analysts have predicted this to be the most influential Mountain West Conference game of the week.
7. See the new look of Swoop and the Utes on the field!
8. Did I mention it’s free for students?
9. It’s Homecoming!
10. The big game, crisp autumn days, football and cheerleaders.
So grab your red, grab a friend, and go to the game.
