Editor:
I have been reading The Chronicle for several weeks now and have noticed the ongoing war between students who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and students who are not. Every time I pick up the newspaper, there is always some controversy over the LDS issue and I have considered many times adding in my opinion. I put those feelings aside not wanting to give more fuel to the flame, but it never ends!
I have no shame in admitting I am LDS, but before you sigh and roll your eyes, I would like to point out that I am not here to speak out about other religions or gays and lesbians. I am accepting of all people no matter their differences. I simply want to ask the staff of The Chronicle to get some new ideas.
I recently transferred from Utah Valley State College, which is even more populated by LDS students?shocking, I know. After two months at the U, I am very intrigued by the diversity here on campus. Granted, that might change when you cross over to the other side of South Campus Drive, but you should just take a few moments to notice the people we have here. The U has blacks, whites, Chinese, gays, lesbians, Jews, Christians and on and on. It’s awesome! Can’t we celebrate humanity instead of attacking each other through the student newspaper?
In closing, I would like to request that The Chronicle writers research their topics more. I would not dare to write an article on another religion not knowing its true standards and beliefs. Elsewhere in the world people are starving or being shot at random and all we can think about is whether or not someone is LDS.
Grow up.
