Two shootings near campus on Monday morning left one man dead and two others in critical condition.
The deceased, whose name the police has not yet released, was found at around 6:00 a.m. lying in a gutter at 647 S. Elizabeth Street (1140 East).
He was described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s.
The two other men were found hours earlier just down the street at 1171 E. 200 South.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the two men, Jose R. Talancon, 21, and Jaime Nunez-Guiterrez, 31, with gunshot wounds.
One of the men was lying in the street after rolling out of a car, and the other remained in the vehicle after being shot.
Evidence of the shootings could be seen as remnants of caution tape remained at the scene along with blood stains on the street.
The men were then transported to local hospitals where they remain in critical condition.
Police could not say how many times the men were shot, what weapon was used or what the motive was.
According to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Fred Louis, the shootings are under investigation.
Police are still trying to determine if the shooting incidents were related.
Louis added that anyone who either witnessed the shootings or may have information related to the case can contact the Salt Lake Police at 799-3000.
