Editor:
A Feb. 14 Chronicle article, “Politics May Have Played role in Beck’s Position,” implied the U was pressured by members of the state Legislature to drop Trisha Beck as an instructor of a political science course.
This is not the case. At no time was the university requested by Sen. Al Mansell or any other member of the Legislature to take any action with regard to Beck’s teaching assignment.
Decisions regarding faculty assignments and course content at the university are carefully, and appropriately, made under the purview of the respective academic departments and not by the administration nor anyone outside of the university.
