The Associated Students of the University of Utah is established to represent all students and points of views. The organization is supposed to support the rights of all students.
It is NOT doing this.
There are a large number of students who oppose revoking the right to carry concealed weapons on campus.
Concealed weapons carrying permits are given to responsible law-abiding citizens. People who apply for the permits have to go through a thorough background check, screening, training and an application process before they are allowed to lawfully carry a concealed weapon.
If this right is taken from law-abiding students, then the only people who will have guns on campus are the ones who are illegitimately carrying them in the first place.
ASUU should stand for students’ rights and not cave into the university administration’s push to take our freedoms from us. It is my firm belief that this is an instance of blatant disregard for our constitutional rights.
If there is to be a petition sent forward on this issue, then it should be done by an entity other than ASUU. Does ASUU support the free “exchange” of ideas, or does it represent a unilateral viewpoint?
