The student government supreme court justices have a busy summer ahead of them with three appeals waiting for their judgement.
After a week of interviews, Associated Students of the University of Utah President Adrian Johnson announced the seven nominated justices on May 16.
Before the justices can be inaugurated into their positions, they must first be appointed by the ASUU Student Senate in a special session on June 12.
Jenifer Tomchak, a nominated justice, will also be appointed the Chief Justice.
The Supreme Court Justices have jurisdiction over all controversies arising under the ASUU constitution, bylaws, policies and procedures.
They also have the power to review the constitutionality of actions by ASUU and all U student organizations.
Their first line of duty will be to review three appeals made by two students concerning voting procedures at an ASUU Assembly meeting on April 22.
The bills under question will freeze up spending of ASUU’s $1.4 million budget until the Supreme Court hears the case.
The justices will set a court date after the Senate’s special session.
