Another batch of lawyers and doctors are ready to take to the streets of Utah, or perhaps even elsewhere.
The College of Law and School of Medicine’s annual graduation ceremonies were held on May 24.
The medical school’s commencement speech was given by Elizabeth Allen, a faculty member who spoke about “being diagnosed with cancer and how it changed her view of practicing medicine and interacting with patients,” according to Phil Sahm, spokesman for health sciences.
The law school’s ceremony produced 127 graduates this year, according to Barbara , the school’s associate dean for Student Affairs.
Although the ceremony was largely similar to past years, there was a slight change.
Third-year law student Dave Thomas, who died in January, was awarded with a certificate of completion, presented to his family. The commencement speech was given by Tom Green, senior vice president for law and administration for Dell Computer Corp. and an alumnus of the law school.
Among other things, Green advised the graduating class on how to achieve the goals of many in the legal profession.
“Making partner, becoming a judge, starting your own firm, these are goals that require hard work, discipline and concentration,” he said. Two faculty members-law professor Robert Keiter and adjunct professor Dee Benson, who is also the chief justice for the U.S. District Court in Utah-were also honored for excellence in teaching.
“It was a great ceremony,” Dickey said.
