All-Tournament Team Includes Wilson, MartinezTwo Ute baseball players were named to the All-MWC Tournament Team following the tourney’s conclusion last weekend. Junior Cort Wilson hit .538 (7-13) and compiled a .938 slugging percentage in three games while driving in four runs. He was the lone infielder selected.
Sophomore closer Brady Martinez was also chosen. The winning pitcher in the Utes’ lone tourney victory, he had a 3.60 ERA over the weekend, striking out six-while not walking a soul-over five innings in two appearances.
Kulio Among Four All-Academic SelectionsU star gymnast Theresa Kulikowski was named to the Verizon Academic All-America District VIII At-Large First Team along with fellow Utes Petra Svet and Jernej Bukovec (skiing), and Kaisorn Chaichana (men’s tennis).
Kulio graduated with a 4.0 GPA after double-majoring in exercise & sport science and psychology. On the playing field, she set a Utah record with 111 career victories, among other school records.
Svet, a former winner of the Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award, attends graduate school (and holds a 3.91 GPA) when she’s not on the slopes. Bukovec is a three-time All-American who held a 3.64 GPA while helping the Utes win a national title.
Chaichana has a near-perfect 3.99 GPA and was recently awarded the Burtis Evans Award, given to Utah’s best academic male athlete.
All four of these athletes are now eligible for national honors, which will be announced June 10.
