After a shift in positions due to an abrupt resignation, the student government’s executive cabinet has a new face.
After two weeks of interviews, the Associated Students of the University of Utah has selected Spencer Ricks as the United Leadership Council Board director.
The ULC is dedicated to uniting student groups at the U and promoting relationships with ASUU through conferences and other leadership development opportunities.
After the original Diversity Board director resigned for personal reasons, the ULC director, Umu Tukuafu, was reappointed as the Diversity director.
Ricks, a junior communication major, has been a member of ASUU since his freshman year, including serving as associate director of the Public Relations Board.
“We were looking for a person with a vision for the board, and someone who was in a position to dedicate themselves to the U and has the capability to network well with student groups,” said ASUU Chief of Staff Jeff Mathis.
Ricks also was able to incorporate this year’s administrative vision of what ULC should do into his plan, according to Mathis.
The main event hosted for student organizations, also called the United Leadership Council, will be a main focus for Ricks.
“I want the conference to be more elite and respected. We’ll add things to it so that students can actually come to us with any questions,” Ricks said.
Ricks was appointed on June 25 and will start planning for conferences such as the ULC conference by next week.
