Ute players honored on preseason all-conference listsAs the 2003 college football season edges close and closer, several preview magazines have released their pre-season all conference teams, and several Utes were mentioned.

Running back Marty Johnson, defensive end Jason Kaufusi, defensive back Dave Revill and kick returner Bo Nagahi made the Athlon Sports all-MWC conference team.

Nagahi, Johnson and Kaufusi, offensive guard Chris Kemoeatu and Arnold Parker made the all conference first team in Phil Steele’s college football preview magazine.

Ute swimmer almost qualifies for national teamSophomore Loren Sweny, a member of the U women’s swimming and diving team attempted to qualify for the Canadian National team, but fell two spots short.

Sweny finished eighth in the competition with a time of 4:25.87 in the 400m freestyle.

Last season Sweny finished first in the MWC championships with in the 800m free relay.

Three golfers qualify for state-AmU golfers Garret Clegg, Carl Jensen, Luke Swilor and Steve Newren qualified for the Utah state-Am competition on July 11.

Clegg was the only one of the three to actually qualify, while the other three received exemptions.
