WOMEN’S TAEKWONDO OPEN OF KOREA
The sisters Amely and Melany Moras will be traveling this Tuesday, August 26th to the city of Korea to participate in The 2nd Korea Gyeongju International Women’s Taekwondo Open Championships to be developed from August 30th to September 2nd. In this event, approved by The World Taekwondo Federation, will be participating teams from 30 countries and about one thousand participants (including competitors and officials).
Amely and Melany are two expert competitors of Taekwondo (Olympic Style) that are part of the Amys Martial Arts Team of Orem. They have won many medals in national and international championships and now they want to do the same in the birthplace of Taekwondo. They, in recognition to the achievements obtained in their sports career, have been invited especially by the Peruvian Taekwondo Federation to represent their country of origin (Peru).
Amely, at her 16 years of age is a 2nd Dan Black Belt. She won her last Gold medals in the Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships 2003 in Orlando – Florida, and in the Utah State Taekwondo Championships 2003, both events organized by United States Taekwondo Union. In addition to the successes achieved in her favorite sport, Amely also has achieved successes in the studies; she recently graduates from Mountain View High school and also obtained her Associate Degree in Applied Science from Utah State Valley College, now she is studying in the University of Utah.
In her part, Melany; the older sister of 25 years of age, has the degree of International Master (4th Dan Black Belt). She is the most experimented with international recognition; Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Peru, Cuba, Mexico, United States and Korea, are some of the countries where she has competed with great success. She is four times Utah Champion. As same as Amely, to Melany besides dedicating time to this Olympic Sport, she says that is it very important to dedicate time to the studies and because of that she graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors Degree of Electrical Engineering. Currently she works as a professional in a prestigious company in Orem-Utah.
But that’s not all what they do; in addition of sharing their time with tournaments, studies, work and training to stay in shape, they are also teachers at Amys Martial Arts where they transmit all their knowledge and experience of the martial arts to their students. They also have been successful in this area; they have made new champions in all the events that they participate with their students that they direct, being the most recently obtained medals at the Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships 2003 in Orlando Florida, US Open in Las Vegas, Nevada and Utah State Taekwondo Championships 2003, among others.
