Students interested in basketball or volleyball have a new place to play.
The Outdoor Recreation Program has built three outdoor basketball courts and two sand volleyball courts on some unused land at Fort Douglas.
The courts were officially completed three weeks ago and are ready for action.
“We highly encourage all students [to use the new courts]. We want them up there,” said Mary Bohlig of Campus Recreation Services.
The courts are located in back of the Outdoor Recreation Program.
The land was unused and with help from Barbara Snyder, senior vice president for Academic Affairs, Campus Rec was able to obtain a grant to remodel the land.
“It looked like Jed Clampett’s backyard. [Now] it looks great up there,” Bohlig said.
The courts are open to all students.
“We’d really like to keep them open for drop-in recreation,” Bohlig said.
In a week or two, there will be horseshoe pits as well.
Three-on-three basketball tournaments are also in the works.
Students who are interested in participating should contact Campus Rec at 581-8898.
